Abdul Rais, Diabetes Community Champion lives in Milton Keynes. He was born in Karachi, Pakistan. He is DPSI qualified Urdu language interpreter in Health and Law. His charitable work involves volunteering for Diabetes UK as a trained Community Champion/Media Volunteer. He is a Committee Member for Diabetes UK Local Group in Milton Keynes and a Committee Member for AIMS UK. He presents a weekly show called ‘Mozu-e-guftugu’ on Pendle Community Radio – Awaz 103.1FM based in Nelson, Lancashire. He also presents the Urdu Show and the Health Show on Radio Ramadan (Ramadan FM) based in Milton Keynes. He has received these awards over the years: Diabetes UK Inspire Award for Supporting the Others (2015): Diabetes UK Face of the Year 2015; Ramadan FM Star of Ramadan (2015); Guest of Honour Award AIMS Sugar Hospital in Peshawar, Pakistan (2017); Guest of Honour Award, International Modern Hospital, Dubai (2017); Diabetes UK One Million Step Challenge medal, a trophy and a certificate for completing almost 1.8 million steps and for raising £1008.96 (2020). Abdul Rais has had over 40 stories published in the UK Urdu newspapers plus a book of 15 Short stories and a complete novel. In addition, he has also written a book on diabetes in Urdu which was published by AIMS Peshawar in 2017. He has also written a few articles for Diabetes UK monthly magazine ‘Balance’. His hobbies are walking, writing short stories and novels in Urdu, writing diabetes related articles and booklets on diabetes, poetry and singing.
